Moot courts are a much vaunted &
much venerated institution at law schools, and justifiably so. As within its
portals callow students hone their lawyering skills, miming real life legal
practice, arguing real life legal practice in hypothetical cases. And as
forensic practice is primarily oral, mooting assists in the practice of court
procedure.
The act of participating in a moot
necessitates developing argumentative techniques, cultivating researching
skills, delving into the different provisions of law and legal history and
widening one's knowledge base. To this effect at the very outset freshers to
the institution, within a week into admittance, are given an initiation into a
Demo Moot.
Recognizing the need to set the stage
for these exercises the college has sought to provide an exclusive Moot Court
auditorium in a perfect facsimile of a courtroom, with a raised dais for the
Judge/Bench, Witness Stands, Prosecution/Defense/Litigant table and the Bar.
This has been assembled with all the trappings of Gothic artistry and Splendor
of woodwork - an ambience which is truly conducive to the requirements of
students. In fact this platform enables them to sharpen their mooting skills
for participation at state and national level competitions.
The academic year 2011-12
has witnessed much success for the law college teams. An indication of the
enthusiasm generated by mooting is the instance of the 5th Grand Intra
Moot Competition held in March 2011, when a virtual mooting fever overtook the
campus and over 120 students and 38 teams participated in the event.
The Committee has also been
organizing the Nyayavalokan - National
Trial Advocacy and Judgement Writing Competition from the city of Mumbai.
Such a competition is 2nd such competition in whole of the Country. The event has seen various law schools
participating from various parts of the Country.
